What V2G is

V2G is the acronym for “Vehicle to Grid” interactions, a technology that allows electric vehicles to interact with the electricity grid in an intelligent way, not only by absorbing energy from the grid to charge their batteries but, if necessary, also releasing it again towards the grid to balance momentary demand peaks.

How V2G Works

This technology can make a very important contribution to the large-scale expansion of renewable energy production, helping to solve one of its most complex limitations which is the conservation of the energy produced and its subsequent delivery. The idea behind V2G is to contribute by using electric vehicles’ batteries connected to the grid as if they were a single gigantic infrastructure, granularly distributed throughout the territory, capable of storing and delivering energy as needed and thus stabilizing the electric system.

V2G Benefits

The advantages of this technology are mainly two: on the one hand, at the system level, V2G will make an important contribution to the energy transition, favoring – as mentioned – the shift to ever greater shares of clean energy production from renewable sources with zero emissions; on the other hand, it will result in a reduction in the charging costs for EV drivers, which will take place in the form of a discount proportional to the contribution provided by the vehicle to the electrical system during the charging session.
